Nosecone, as can be expected, has a conical shape in one of his modes (his alternate mode). He’s one of the Technobots and can form Computron. He transforms into a drill-tank, and is a retool of Brawl. It’s rare that you get tanks, and drill-tanks for that matter, in the Autobot army, so he’s got a pretty unique alternate mode. There are Autobot tanks, but they aren’t common.
The Computron gift set retails for $199.90 and is available at all good departmental stores. Thanks Hasbro for sending him over!
Alternate mode
Brown usually denotes toughness, which is the impression that Nosecone gives. Plus he’s a tank, so a brown tank means he’s a pretty rugged dude. He’s also got yellow portions for where the “brain” of the tank is, ie, the cockpit. So in alternate mode, his colour scheme conveys a blend of brains and brawn. A rugged Technobot, if you will. It’s not to say that the Technobots aren’t tough – they have defeated Abominus on several occasions, and you can’t deny that Abominus is physically more powerful than them. But to have one of them don an alternate mode that’s associated with brute force is an unusual, if effective choice.
Still not sure how that drill works, as I explained in Drillhorn‘s review, but then he’s got plenty of other armaments besides the big pointy cone. I’m sure he’ll figure something out if he ever does need to burrow underground or create a large hole at some point. Lasers would make a cleaner hole right?
Robot mode
While the other tank Transformers have a stockier, broader look, Nosecone seems to be sleeker and taller. Perhaps it’s his red thighs that slim down his legs (do darker colour slim the thighs?) and the use of yellow highlights to make it seem like his calves are leaner, with brown “pants” around them. Regardless, he seems like the tallest of the Brawl moulds, which suits the Technobot personality. They’re about intelligence and finesse, rather than using brute force to smash their way through fights.
However, the use of yellow accentuates the “backpack effect” on Nosecone, making his kibble more obvious than ever. Then again, the smartest students are known to carry giant bags so there’s a precedent there.
I like the juxtaposition of strength and smarts in Nosecone. He might not be the strongest or the smartest, but he’s certainly far above average in both categories.
