Marcus Goh was born and bred in Singapore, where he spent his formative years at Raffles Institution and Raffles Junior College, under the auspices of the Gifted Education Programme. He later graduated from the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information at Nanyang Technological University, with a B.A. in Communication Studies, majoring in Broadcast and minoring in English Literature and Business.
He began his stint as scriptwriter in Mediacorp in 2007, and has worked on shows such as Crimewatch, Police and Thief, Incredible Tales, Point of Entry and Polo Boys. He also collaborated with an Australian production company, Great Western Entertainment, to brainstorm for HBO’s Serangoon Road.
His hobbies lie in the realm of toys, and he has always been an avid Transformers fan. He loaned his collection for display at Cybertron Con 2012 and other exhibitions, and also helps manage Singapore’s premier Transformers Facebook page, Planet Iacon. He even went to Botcon in 2013! He currently does toy reviews for Hasbro. He has now branched out into other collectibles.
After five years in Mediacorp, he started his own writing studio in 2012, Write-Handed, where he does scriptwriting, editorial, and media consultancy. At the same time, he started his pop culture and geek lifestyle portal, marcusgohmarcusgoh.com (you’re reading it right now).
He went into journalism in 2014, and he’s written for Yahoo! and Rice Media.
Ever the lifelong learner, he later went on to get a
- DACE/DDLP (WSQ Diploma in Design and Development of Learning for Performance from the Institute for Adult Learning) from the Institute for Adult Learning
- CELTA (Cambridge Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) from the British Council
Why did he do all that? Well, that’s because Marcus went into education – both as a teacher and as a curriculum developer. At Joyous Learning, he pioneered escape room lessons – 2-hour lessons gamified into an escape room with exciting plots and plenty of excitement.
In 2024, he started Fun to be Smart, a learning and development studio that specialises in learning design and educational escape rooms.
Then life happened.
Marcus later went on a journey of self-discovery, where he discovered the secret to wellbeing – positive psychology. That was when he completed a
- GDAPP (Graduate Diploma in Applied Positive Psychology) from the The School of Positive Psychology
He started Happiness for Busy People in 2024, a positive psychology practice for wellbeing and productivity.
At the same time, he also discovered a newfound love for personal oral storytelling – probably stemming from his television and scriptwriting days. That was when he started Lyssa Zampa, a personal oral storytelling initiative. It’s his CCA (then again, he has a number of CCAs).
He’s currently a Master’s student – pursuing a MAPP (Master in Applied Positive Psychology) from the University of Pennsylvania.
