Ironbison sounds like a Catoblepas although I can’t find any reference to iron or bisons in the Wikipedia entry for a catoblepas. He transforms into a tank with desert camouflage, and may be the most realistic vehicle of the team. He’s a homage to his G1 predecessor, Killbison. Ironbison is a retool of Brawl, and looks like the 2007 Movie redeco, Desert Brawl. Well, at least he’s not Dessert Brawl.
In this series, ie Transformers: Combiner Wars, Liokaiser is formed from a team of Destrons. It is a homage to Liokaiser from the Transformers: Victory, where the team that formed Liokaiser was called Breastforce.
Liokaiser retails for $199.90 and is available at all good departmental stores. Thanks Hasbro for sending him over!
Alternate Mode
I guess “iron” fits the theme of Ironbison since he’s a sandy yellow colour, and could conceivably be thought of as having iron plating, like a Catobleplas. Or maybe the iron part refers to the shiny metallic hatch portion of the tank, something that Drillhorn doesn’t have. It evokes a desert sort of feel with the sand camouflage colour, and you’d expect Ironbison to leap out of the sand dunes and blast you to bits.
Well, if he were Killbison I’d expect him to fire some heavy duty shells at you – as Ironbison, I have the feeling that he would ram you or overrun you instead.
His treads are silvery too. OK maybe the “iron” in his name refers to the silver hatch and the treads, not the yellow portion. Iron is also supposed to be red, right?
Robot Mode
For someone who ostensibly uses more brute force, Ironbison is pretty well-armed, coming with the usual Destron gun and his own turret accessory. What really accentuates his broadness is his horned head. The horns fold in in robot mode, and are a callback to his anime self, where his horns were more to the top (it’s to the side here). The overall effect is to give him this look where he’s about to tackle you – not unlike Drillhorn’s look. Ironbison looks friendlier than Drillhorn though.
The metallic portions work well as highlights in his robot mode, and also add a more stylish element to him.
Accessories
His accessories are the most normal of the lot, although that extra black gun adds more menace in robot mode. Wish there were a way to connect both the black guns together (or even all four guns together).
So there you have it – Ironbison! What he lacks in special components, he makes up for with a unique and more premium paint job. I like his horns best though, and after all this, he does remind me of a bison. OK maybe a bull more than a bison.
Next up – Deszaras!
