Afterbreaker is a homage to G1 Afterburner, and probably had his name changed thanks to trademark reasons. At least it’s not Afterblaster although admittedly that would be quite a hilarious name. So anyway, Afterbreaker is a part of the Technobots, and forms Computron. He transforms into a motorbike that’s pretty futuristic (would they have motorbikes in the future?). He’s a retool of Groove from the Protectobots, and marks the second use of the mould.

The Computron gift set retails for SGD$199.90 and is available at all good departmental stores. Thanks Hasbro for sending him over!

The motorbike transformation strives hard for the G1 look while still maintaining the fact that it’s a motorbike of the future. No mean feat considering the G1 aesthetic means blockiness, which gives Afterbreaker his girth and heft. But he also has several contours and sleek curves which gives the sense of aerodynamism and futurism.

Basically, it looks like he could fly. I think that would be the very definition of a futuristic motorbike.

His orange doesn’t stand out as much as some of the other Technobots, and the reds and greens match well with his colours here. They’re a pretty harmonious colour scheme, while still distinctly reminding you that he’s not of this era (and also possibly not of this Earth).

Robot Mode

When it comes to robot mode, he looks quite tall, partly due to the kibble behind. But his general shape and proportions make him very anime-like, in the sense that he’s tall and slim. Solid calves anchor him down and make him less fragile than a character with his build would usually be. And he’s got discrete eyes and a mouth! This helps humanise him a bit over the other Technobots, making him the most kid-friendly of them all.

Afterbreaker’s wheels are large, but they don’t intrude on to his general appearance because they’re situated at the back. I’d have liked his wheels to turn into weapons but Wreck-Gar’s already got that, so I’m cool to let the Junkion have his uniqueness. Also, it means that Junkheap and Scrapheap don’t get their toes tread on too. Wouldn’t want the Junkions after me!

I think Afterbreaker is a pretty nifty use of the Groove mould since we don’t get many large-sized motorbikes these days, especially since Arcee is mostly back to being a car these days. I’d say that Afterbreaker is the Bumblebee of the Technobots – wouldn’t you?
