Uranos (Superion)

1 Ultra and 4 Voyager Sized Combiner (approximately)

TFC Toys

Price: $600-$750 (secondary market, approximately)

Should you buy him at $600? Yes!

Should you buy him, no matter the price? $700 should be your upper limit.

Finally, an Autobot combiner! And produced by the company that makes the biggest combiners (thus far), TFC Toys, so you know he’s not going to disappoint. And honestly, Superion is the top contender for Autobot combiners. Defensor, yeah he looks nifty but didn’t have much airtime. Computron – heck yeah! But definitely not for a first try. Raiden – if one of him is ever made, definitely!

But Superion trumps them all. They are flyers, and they have character – from Silverbolt, who’s afraid of heights, to the impetuous Air Raid. The Aerialbots are memorable because they had their own internal character struggles to overcome, not just because they became cool planes.

But yeah a combiner made out of planes is pretty cool. Come on! The only thing cooler would be a combiner made out of dinosaurs, but Predaking, thus far, has that covered. Sort of. A super robot made out of robots that turn into planes. The only thing that can trump that is a combiner made out of Seekers, but that’s not going to happen anytime soon, me thinks.

Anyways, on to Superion!

Stingray

I’m not sure if he’s a homage to anything. Suffice to say that he forms the chestplate of Superion (Uranos), and is a nifty little mascot to have around, but not incredibly critical. Especially when you have the Wings of the Uranos add-on kit.

Uranos (Superion)

The much maligned original form of Uranos, with a chestplate that doesn’t look like G1 Superion’s and an actual face. I’m actually pretty OK with this but YMMV. It’s not very secure though, that would be my only gripe. Otherwise, hey, he’s a Superion homage! I really can’t ask for much more than that.

Uranos (Superion) with the Wings of the Uranos add-on

The Wings of the Uranos does make him look more manly, with the broader chest and the faceplate. Also, the gun adds to the G1 nostalgia. Is the Wings of the Uranos worth it? Well, if you shelled out for Uranos, yes. It’s like buying clothes armour for your Transformers.

M3 (Menasor) vs Uranos (Superion) in a bare knuckled fight!

M3 (Menasor) vs Uranos (Superion)

Because M3 (Menasor) was made to a different scale, and by a different company he is significantly smaller than Uranos (Superion) and isn’t really an intimidating opponent. The only slight consolation is that in real life, Menasor (made up of cars) would be much smaller than Superion (made up of planes).

Big bots!

And so concludes the combiner reviews so far! Here’s the link to Warlord (Predaking) and M3 (Menasor) if you’re keen.

Of the three recent combiners, I’d say it’s a close fight between Uranos (Superion) and Warlord (Predaking). But if I had to choose, I’d go with Uranos (Superion). There are two other versions of Predaking coming out, but there’s only one Superion so far.

Plus he’s made up of planes. What’s there not to like?
