Should you buy this at full price? If your kid really wants it.
Should you buy this at a 20% or more discount (Metro/OG/Isetan sale)? Yes.
Beast Hunter Optimus Prime is the largest Optimus Prime in the Transformers: Prime family, coming in at what would be the old Supreme size. Only one other Transformer comes in at this size class, and that would be Beast Fire Predaking.
The box art is repeated on both thinner sides of the box. I’m a bit disappointed that Optimus’ Intelligence and Skill are only 8. Didn’t he defeat Megatron in melee combat? Multiple times? Oh well.
I got him at a discount. This is Beast Fire Predaking, the other “Supreme” Transformer in Transformers: Prime.
I miss the old days when large Transformers would turn into a base of some sort.
This is an unshelled Optimus Prime. I took that cable out before I photographed it.
Optimus without any accessories. That backpack is part of Optimus.
His weapons. I’m a bit sad that they don’t have any special names, just ‘Dragon Hunting Sword” and “Dragon Hunting Shield.” I guess in Mandarin that would sound pretty cool but not in English. Hey, didn’t his Voyager toy call his sword the Star Saber?
He gets five missiles and the cable is removable. Points for using unique moulds for four out of five missiles, and they do look like snares for catching animals. Not Beast Fire Predaking though, I’m sure.
Fully decked out Beast Hunter Optimus Prime.
This was my Instagram photo.
This is how his Firebreath Cyclocannons work. After you fire a missile, you can press the button and rotate the next dragon head missile launcher into position to launch its ammunition, until all five missiles are launched. Whereupon I guess you’d have to contend with just a giant sword and shield.
His eyes and chest light up when you push the chest fender down.
Equipped with sword and shield. They look really out of place. I think I prefer him without his adornments, at least in vehicle mode.
Beast Hunter Optimus Prime – papa, mama, and smallie.
Which Optimus Prime do you prefer?
I guess the Forge of Solus Prime really made him… robust.
Weaponiser Optimus Prime is more poseable with that Dragon Hunting Sword.
Should you get him? My answer is yes, but my answer is usually yes unless it’s a really useless recolour (Electrostatic Jolt comes to mind). He does have a few fun features, like the Firebreath Cyclocannons (which work both in robot and vehicle mode), but the price point is a little large for something that doesn’t have that much detail on it. Then again, I guess the bulk of the pricing went into the features.
I should take more comparison pics of him.
