Every month, we’ll tell you about new television shows to hit terrestrial and cable channels, as well as streaming sites in Singapore!

We’ll also highlight shows that you’ve got to be home (or on your phone) to catch every month.

Overview of December shows

December’s an even quieter month for new dramas since many shows are take a hiatus during this season. Oddly enough, one word titles seem to dominate December’s offerings. If you were a fan of “Ajin: Demi-Human”, you’ll be happy to learn that the second season debuts in December. A mixed bag of different genres also awaits you on Netflix.

Vikings (fourth season, part two) (HISTORY) (1 Dec, Thursdays 10pm)

In the midseason premiere, Ragnar’s reappearance in Kattegat triggers a chain of events no one – except the Seer – could have ever imagined. He unexpectedly arrives home to see what has become of his sons and to handle unfinished business in Wessex with King Ecbert (Linus Roache). Meanwhile, Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick) plans a power play in Kattegat and Bjorn (Alexander Ludwig) prepares to fulfill his long-held dream to explore the Mediterranean in a sleek new boat built for him by Floki (Gustaf Skarsgård).

The second half of the fourth season of “Viking” comes at an opportune time in the year for those who are missing their dose of historical or semi-historical dramas. Although it doesn’t have the gore and sex of “Game of Thrones”, it’s still an intriguing look at the sort of mortals Thor might have awed. The last new episode of “Vikings” was way back in April, so this wraps up the stories set up in the first part of the season!

Spectral (Netflix) (9 Dec)

When an otherworldly force wreaks havoc on a war-torn European city, an engineer teams up with an elite Special Ops unit to stop it.

Produced by Legendary Pictures, this science fiction flick has everything you’d want in an action film. It pits the military might of a squad of commandos against phantom creatures that are likely to wield supernatural powers. What makes it more interesting is that it’s set in a European city, so you can expect to see fancy architecture being blown apart in the chaos. Collateral damage is fun to watch.

Goblin (Viu) (3 Dec)

Kim Shin is a goblin who is also a protector of souls. He lives together with an amnesiac grim reaper who is in charge of taking deceased souls. Together the two of them sees the dead off into the afterlife. it stars Gong Yoo (Coffee Prince), Kim Go Eun (Cheese in the Trap), Lee Dong Wook (My Girl), Yoo In Na (My Love From the Star). Written and directed by the team from Descendants of the Sun – Kim Eun Sook (Scriptwriter), Lee Eung Bok (Director).

Korean dramas seem to be taking a rather fantastical bent these days, what with “Legend of the Blue Sea”‘s debut last month and now a drama about the afterlife. Unfortunately, it sees the writer for “Descendants of the Sun” on the project, so we can expect plenty of melodrama and contrived coincidences. However, the fantasy setting should keep the programme interesting for its run.
