Abomination is a Hulk villain who has the strength to go toe-to-toe with the Hulk himself. His human identity is Emil Blonsky, although he’s not usually depicted in human form (unless in an origin story). He was featured in 2008’s “The Hulk” and since that story takes place in the MCU, I wonder why they haven’t unleashed Abomination to stop world threatening villains.
Abomination is from the 6 inch Marvel Legends line, and he comes as part of the SDCC 2016’s ‘The Raft’ box set. ‘The Raft’ retails for SGD $199.90. Thank you, Hasbro, for sending him over!
This is my first time taking a look and reviewing 6 inch figures, so please be forgiving! I usually check out Come, See Toys if I want to check out 6″ figures. I’m personally committed to 3.75 inch figures, thanks to the numerous box sets that came out in 2012, which is why you don’t see me posting much about 6″ figures.
Abomination is as large and frightening as they come. He’s got 19 points of articulation and is very, very heavy. He’s also taller than 6 inches, since he’s supposed to be on the same size scale as Hulk, Juggernaut, and the other big boys. His skin is scaly and textured, which makes him feel like he’s rather leathery and tough.
To be honest, I learnt quite a bit about Abomination from this figure. For one, I never knew that his costume was really just a pair of briefs. I also didn’t quite realise that he’s got only two toes. I mean, it’s not that I check out the feet of every Marvel villain I come across, but I didn’t expect Abomination to have lost three toes in the process of becoming a gamma irradiated freak.
For some reason, I thought he wore shorts like Hulk does. The other nifty detail is how his fingernails, toenails and teeth are off white, rather than being strictly white or yellow. It’s a small detail that reminds you that Abomination was human, but has given up on human upkeep.
As with many oversized figures, Abomination doesn’t quite stand up straight, but is a little hunchbacked. I understand that this is to make him as tall as possible without exceeding the confines of the packaging, and I think it’s pretty well done here. From the front, you can’t really tell that he’s hunched, and it makes his neck area look pretty thick and, dare I say it, manly.
His detailing is also asymmetrical, meaning they didn’t just sculpt his left half and create a mirror image for his right half. I like his that his heft and weight make him pretty easy to display and pose, and his chunkiness also means I’m not too worried about breaking parts of him too.
Abomination is pretty impressive and has got all the right proportions. Unlike some incarnations of Abomination which just make him look fat, this version of Abomination looks muscular and strong enough to take on and even defeat the Hulk. Which also makes you wonder, how exactly are they keeping him restrained in the Raft prison?
I’ll be checking out the next few The Raft box set figures soon too!
