Should you buy the Satay Burger? Yes, but ask for more satay sauce and go for the beef one.
Is it worth the money? Not too bad.
So now that the World Cup is over, the next burger that McDonald’s is putting out is the Shiok Shiok Satay Burger. It comes in beef and chicken varieties, but honestly, chicken? Go for the beef (unless you have dietary restrictions).
I know what you’re thinking. With the onions and the consistency & colour of the gravy, doesn’t the burger look familiar? It should, because if you take away the cucumbers (which are kind of weird), it looks like Burger King’s Beef Rendang Burger!
I know Burger King’s Beef Rendang Burger went away for awhile, because there was a sign announcing that it was back. But the Beef Rendang Burger is kind of craving specific – it’s got a rich, distinctive taste that you aren’t always in the mood for, so you need to really want that rendang taste to buy the burger. Unless you’re a Burger King fan.
But, digressing. Back to McDonald’s Satay Burger.
It really does not look impressive, especially in a box. Perhaps it would have looked tastier wrapped in paper. It’s a double beef patty though.
The cucumbers are really very strange. I’m not very sure if many peoplle eat satay with cucumber at the same time, or you eat it one after another. I eat it one after another. I think most of the world does.
Lots of onions though. No kissing after eating this burger, that’s for sure.
It’s not just that it doesn’t look enough, there isn’t enough sauce to impart the “satay sauce” taste that you’re expecting. Protip: ask for more satay sauce with your burger. It won’t be too much.
So how does it taste? Very much like Burger King’s Beef Rendang Burger, but a bit dryer. The cucumbers help alleviate the richness of the taste, so this is something that you can eat fairly often. The beef patties match up very well with the satay sauce flavour (which, more and more, is making me suspect that the rendang sauce is actually satay sauce).
In other words – yes, I liked it! But I’ll be asking for more satay sauce.
Try it! Maybe not the chicken one though (really, chicken satay? Who eats chicken satay? Isn’t it beef/mutton/pork usually?), but definitely the beef.
Bonus: Banana Pie!
Should you buy the Banana Pie? Yes, unless you hate bananas.
So I tried the Banana Pie too. I think they’ve had it before, but this is my first time trying it.
It looks normal.
And it tastes like goreng pisang! Surprise! Maybe I should have figured it out before eating it, but it does make sense that the Banana Pie tastes like goreng pisang. Seriously, they should have called it the Goreng Pisang Pie. It goes pretty well with the Satay Burger too.
