The IT Crowd is a comedy about the underappreciated IT department in a large MNC – specifically, two tech geniuses and their IT illiterate boss. This is the last season, which ended with a finale episode set quite a few years later.
I’m quite upset that this is the last season because this is really when the show peaked. They saved the best for last (or if you want to see it another way, they ended on a high) and this is the season with the best jokes, where all those Facebook clips come from, and where Moss truly becomes the type of IT character we all love.
I loved how elaborate the set dressing finally got! I mean, they’re geeky, and they should have had some pop culture stuff on their shelves and tables long ago. Maybe they had a bigger budget this time. Whatever the reason, it meant that there were more interesting visuals to look at during the scenes. It also meant that there were more clues to the characters of Moss and Roy, and I loved the Easter eggs.
They also fleshed out Moss so much more in this season. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – Moss is a much better, more authentic and far less grating Sheldon. I don’t understand the latter’s popularity when Moss should really have been getting all the attention. Nevertheless, I appreciate that Moss became the kind of IT whiz that we can all identify with, and that he’s really a sweet soul at heart.
Douglas was not as annoying as before, and thankfully we didn’t get that much of him this season. I never got why he stayed on so long – shouldn’t he have been axed or weren’t there complaints about him? Anyway, he was kept firmly in the background while our three leads did their thing.
The ending, while a happy one for the main characters, felt a little contrived. I mean, I know it’s an over the top comedy, but the ending wasn’t realistic enough nor outlandish enough to be “believable”. But it was still great to see our heroes getting what they, er, sort of deserved. I guess?
This was definitely the best season of The IT Crowd, but sadly the last season. Wish there were more. I’d definitely catch a remake or a continuation if it exists. Maybe even an American adaptation of it!
