A live-action Star Wars show (almost) devoid of Sith, Jedi and the Force seems almost blasphemous — after all, Rogue One and Solo didn’t quite have those elements, and they didn’t fare as well as their Force-wielding counterparts. Yet Andor manages to tread this path with aplomb, telling a new tale set in a universe of scum and villainy without resorting to the power of the Force. Perhaps it’s because of its charming lead character, Cassian Andor (Diego Luna), whom we last saw in Rogue One. Or perhaps it’s because of its look at a different part of the Star Wars universe, where morality is grey and the heroes aren’t as flash. Or maybe it’s because we finally have a show that has nothing to do with the Skywalkers. Regardless, it’s impossible to deny Andor‘s popularity — and its quality.
The 12-episode Star Wars series is set five years before Rogue One, showing us Cassian Andor as a cynical thief (in stark contrast to the ardent Rebel Alliance spy that we saw in the movie). Andor shows the nascent days of the Rebel Alliance, and how the various pivotal characters came to be in Rogue One and later, Star Wars: A New Hope.
With any new series comes the hope that our fan-favourite characters will appear in the show — or at least cameo in it (remember Ahsoka in The Mandalorian?). So here are the characters that we hope will appear in Andor. Let’s hope they don’t end up breaking Disney+ if they do appear!
1. Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson)
Ahsoka was a tad annoying in her first appearance on Star Wars: The Clone Wars, but she eventually grew into a beloved character. So it was gratifying to see Anakin’s former Padawan appear on The Mandalorian — because it meant that she survived the events of the Original Trilogy! We last saw her in The Book of Boba Fett, when she helped resolve Grogu’s storyline. Since it’s a foregone conclusion that the Jedi (is she technically one during this time period?) is alive during the events of Andor (although we don’t know where she is) — it wouldn’t hurt to see Asoka cameo and help Cassian out of whatever new scrape he finds himself in, right?
2. Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones)
Jyn Erso and Cassian Andor didn’t hit it off when they first met in Andor — but by the film’s end, sparks flew (both in a romantic and fiery Death Star-ish sense). The daughter of Galen Erso (Mads Mikkelson), Jyn was a key player who helped get the plans to the Death Star to the Rebel Alliance. So it would be delightful to see them meet in Andor. Even if they don’t meet, it would add a little bit of dramatic tension to see how they could have met, but it was a near miss. We already have Saw Gerrara (Forest Whittaker) in Andor, so why not have another Rogue One alumni appear?
3. Chirrut Imwe (Donnie Yen)
While we’re on Rogue One alumni, another fun addition could be Chirrut Imwe — the blind, staff-wielding monk who believed in the Force. His mantra was “I’m one with the Force, and the Force is with me.” Despite not exhibiting any overt Force-related abilities, he was quicker with a staff than his blaster-wielding opponents. Seeing Chirrut Imwe appear, even for just a short while, would be another nice nod to Rogue One — as well as adding a welcome touch of Asian representation in the series.
4. Amilyn Holdo (Laura Dern)
Amilyn Holdo is supposed to be around the same age as Leia, so she would probably be a child or in her early teens during Andor. The decisive leader was instrumental in helping the Resistance escape in Star Wars: The Last Jedi with her final, self-sacrificial act. Given that we saw a young Leia (Vivien Lyra Blair) in Obi-Wan Kenobi, it would be great if Cassian could somehow be paired up (or saddled with, depending on your perspective) a young Amilyn Holdo in the series. Granted, she wouldn’t be a Vice-Admiral yet, but at least it would plant the seeds for her eventual allegiance to the Rebel Alliance, and later the Resistance.
5. Qi’ra (Emilia Clarke)
Qi’ra was the intriguing love interest of Han Solo (Alden Ehrenreich) in his titular movie, and ended up being teased as a being a minion of Darth Maul at the end of Solo. Unfortunately, we never saw what become of the plotline. So continuing her storyline here would be an interesting way of resolving that dangling plot threat, especially since Qi’ra’s character fits more into the world of Andor than that of a Jedi vs Sith story. Anyway, who’s going to say no to more Emilia Clarke in Star Wars?
