In Part 3 (ie, today’s post), I’ll take a look at how a stickered up Fortress Maximus looks in his city and starship modes. If you didn’t know, Fortress Maximus (this version, the Titans Returns version) is the largest Transformer ever made, and he transforms into a city and starship. Well actually he transforms into a battle station rather than a starship but a starship sounds cooler.
In Titans Return continuity, the Titans are Fortress Maximus and Metroplex, and they’re akin to forces of nature. In G1 continuity, Fortress Maximus was the Supreme Commander of the Autobots in Transformers: Headmasters. Being big is his biggest selling point (geddit geddit?).
Fortress Maximus retails for SGD $299.90 in stores, and is out everywhere. Thanks Hasbro for sending over Fortress Maximus!
Starship mode
Because he’s so big, it’s sometimes difficult to see the detailing of the sculpt, especially since they’re supposed to be tiny details that emphasise the scale and mass of Fortress Maximus. That’s where the stickers come in. They highlight the smaller details that in turn, help to emphasise the unstickered parts of the sculpt. They’re strategically placed so that your eyeline is drawn to those areas and also the surrounding parts as well.
Here you see the control tower and the tremendous amount of detail put into it. You might not be sure what they’re meant to represent, but it conveys this sense of busyness and the fact that it would take a really expansive crew to man this starship.
This is detachable by the way. Yes I’m going to do an Uncle Sixshot once Sixshot is available. You know I am.
This, to me, is the hangar for smaller ships, ie the Titan Master vehicles.
Love those cannons. They’re detachable, by the way, and can function as gun placements on other parts of Fortress Maximus… at the expense of making his legs bare. I prefer giving him leg armaments though.
These parts really give the sense that smaller vehicles will start flying out and attacking anybody that comes close by. Pity he’s not really a Death Star or some such, so it’s really just Fortress Maximus attacking you rather than a whole fleet of smaller fighter ships.
Overall, yes, you should place stickers on his starship mode. They help a great deal.
City mode
The stickers are pretty optional if you intend to keep Fortress Maximus in city mode, because the most strikingly identifiable parts of his city configuration are already brought out by the mould. Still, more details always enhance a fun alternate mode!
Yep, that’s where the Titan Master sits! It’s removable too, but why would you want to do that?
Parking lot. Lots of them. For smaller Titan Masters and their rides, of course.
If you fly, this is where you can take off.
More cannons make for a better base. More defensible.
These are the connectors to the Autobot Leader class base modes but for the life of me I don’t know how to connect them in a logical fashion. Maybe I’m getting too old for this. Nah.
How the hands look, folded up under the runways.
So this is what Fortress Maximus looks like stickered up, in his alternate modes! Is it worth the trouble? I’d say yes, and I really hate putting stickers on (you’ll see why in the next post).
So here’s part 3 of my Fortress Maximus review. In Part 4, I’ll conclude with Fortress Maximus’ robot mode, all fully decked out, and a look at his Titan Master!
