If you’ve got a Disney+ account, you’re going to be glued to your screen on Disney+ Day, which falls on September 8 (Thursday) this year. That’s just in time for the school holidays too, which falls on the week of September 8 — and there’s a plethora of kid-friendly content for them! Here are the highlights for this year’s Disney+ Day.
This film sees the God of Thunder (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – one of self-discovery. But his efforts are interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.
If you missed Thor: Love and Thunder when it hit cinemas, now’s your chance to catch it! Thor had some rather existential issues to deal with in the film, which is all too relatable given the pandemic that we’ve been through. But don’t worry, there’s enough of Thor to go around, as he battles aliens, gods, and god slayers.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: A Jedi’s Return
This insightful documentary from explores the return of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker to the screen—and Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen to their respective classic roles. Director Deborah Chow, cast and crew reflect on their journey to tell a new story with behind-the-scenes footage, colorful personal stories and meaningful momentsComplete with visits to the creature shop, props department and more, the documentary shows us all we wanted to know about Obi-Wan Kenobi.
While the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has its own series that chronicles the making of the Marvel movies, Star Wars doesn’t quite have that yet — Disney Gallery is the closest they have. However, it focuses on The Mandalorian, so putting Obi-Wan Kenobi would be a little out of place. Hence we’ve got a special devoted entirely to the series about the legendary Jedi. And if the Star Wars Disney+ series do well, we might even get a full fledged series about the making of the shows!
This live-action retelling of the beloved tale of a wooden puppet who embarks on a thrilling adventure to become a real boy stars Tom Hanks as Geppetto, the wood-carver who builds and treats Pinocchio (Benjamin Evan Ainsworth) as if he were his own son. Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays Jiminy Cricket, who serves as Pinocchio’s guide as well as his “conscience”.
Pinocchio’s release was in flux in its production years — would it see a theatrical release or a streaming release? The pandemic didn’t help either. But now, we’re finally getting to see the live action version of this classic film! Me, personally, I’m looking forward to seeing Tom Hanks as Geppetto. And hopefully, a 3D-animated Monstro the Whale.
This animated series follows Lightning McQueen (voice of Owen Wilson) and his best friend Mater (voice of Larry the Cable Guy) as they head east from Radiator Springs on a cross-country road trip to meet up with Mater’s sister. Along the way, every stop is its own adventure, with outrageous roadside attractions and colorful new characters.
If Pinocchio wasn’t enough of a nostalgia trip for you, Cars on the Road brings us back to the world of the 2006 film Cars. It has seen two sequels, Cars 2 and Cars 3, and this nine-episode series seemingly takes place after Cars 3. It introduces a new character — monster truck Ivy (Quinta Brunson). What adventures will the trio face in this series?

Welcome to the Club (The Simpsons): This new short from The Simpsons sees Lisa Simpson discovering that being bad might be more fun than being a princess.
Marvel Studios Assembled: The Making of Thor: Love and Thunder: This instalment of the behind-the-scenes series Marvel Studios: Assembled focuses on how Thor: Love and Thunder was created.
Frozen Sing-Along: Children (and adults like me) can live vicariously through Elsa by belting out Let It Go (and other songs). This is a new Sing-Along version of the film.
Frozen 2 Sing-Along: If you’ve run out of songs to sing on Frozen, then go Into The Unknown with the sequel. This is also a new Sing-Along version of the film.
Tierra Incognita: This drama revolves around a teenager who revisits the horror theme park where his parents disappeared eight years ago.
Growing Up: This docu-series follows the lives of 18 to 22-year-olds and diversity of their growing up experiences Each 30-minute episode focuses on a different person and their coming-age journey.
Epic Adventures with Bertie Gregory: This natural history program follows explorer Bertie Gregory as he plumbs the depths of Antarctica and the wilds of Zambia looking at the wonder of the natural world.
THE ZONE: Survival Mission: This game show sees K-variety hosts Yu Jaeseok, Lee Kwangsoo, and Kwon Yuri struggle to survive whatever is thrown at them.
