So here’s a quick and dirty review of G2 Superion from the G2 Superion giftset. He normally retails for $199.90 SGD but he’s on sale now, so you can nab him at a good price if you know where to look! (Hint: Metro or OG, although I prefer Metro).
The original G2 Superion has a special place in my heart in that he’s the first combiner I had when I was old enough not to lose all the pieces (hands and feet). I think I only lost one gun, but that didn’t really matter la – he was always in combined mode. He might have had really loud colours, but it was the 90’s so everything had really loud colours.
G2 Aerialbots
Because of their contrasting colours, the G2 Aerialbots don’t look too united as a team. But they do make an attempt to unify them with the blues, reds, and silvers. OK, so that’s really actually grey, but I’d like to think of them as unpainted metallic parts.
G2 Silverbolt
Comparatively, I’d say G2 Silverbolt looks more solid than the original. This is possibly because he has Superman/Spider-Man colours, you know, red and blue.
G2 Powerglide
G2 Powerglide looks like a Shattered Glass version of Powerglide in that he has the colour scheme inverted. If you’re looking for an SG version, I’d say he works well.
G2 Skydive
Seriously, G2 Skydive looks like Scourge. If you got 4 of him and combined him with Cyclonus it might be the closest you’d get to a combining Cyclonus/Scourge/Sweeps combo.
G2 Quickslinger/Slingshot
He’s the odd man out in the group in that he’s all gold. Fortunately it’s not gold plastic, so no worries of breakage there. They do give him some blue and grey highlights to try and tie him thematically to the rest of the G2 Aerialbots, but he’s going to be the first one to get lost in a crowd.
G2 Air Raid
I like blue planes so G2 Air Raid has that going for him. However, he has a fairly crappy ability in Transformers: Earth Wars, in that his special ability requires other people to help out. So overall, I guess he’s one of the average Aerialbots. Come on, Transformers: Earth Wars! Give Air Raid a better ability!
G2 Firefly/Fireflight
G2 Firefly/Fireflight actually doesn’t look very different from his G1 predecessor. He got away unscathed in this recolouring, and you could say that everyone else kind of based their colours off his original deco.
G2 Superion
Here he is! I like his Superman-ish chest, in that it’s a red shield over a blue body. I’d say overall, he’s got a more superhero-ish look than the the original, and if you like superheroes, G2 Superion is the closest that you’d come to one.
So here’s G2 Superion! I’d say you should get definitely get him if you like the G2 aesthetic or superheroes. He’s been a blast to play with even if he’s outnumbered by the G2 Decepticon Combiners.
