[Transformers] ‘Lightsteed’ from the Computron gift set is like a red Robocop

Lightsteed? You read that right. Lightsteed is a Technobot, and transforms into a R35 Nissan GTR police car, a bright red one at that. He’s a recolour of Streetwise from the Protectobots (and not a retool since the head’s actually the same). Lightsteed is a homage to the original Lightspeed from the Technobots, and I believe he’s been renamed for trademark reasons. He’s part of the Computron gift set.

The Computron gift set retails for $199.90 and is available at all good departmental stores. Thanks Hasbro for sending him over!

If Lightsteed’s alternate mode looks familiar, you’re absolutely right. He looks like Dust Up with an alternate paintjob. Here he’s got more silvery colours, his headlights and some detailing along the car, which shows us how versatile the original mould is – a different set of highlights (pun intended) makes a world of difference!

However, the red does overshadow the fact that Lightsteed is a police car (forgot that didn’t you!), even though it works out better in robot mode.

Would have been awesome if we could have the Autobot Elite Guard symbol there on the side of the door! It’d be odd though, seeing that Computron isn’t usually associated with the Autobot Elite Guard.

Thanks to his blue visor eyes, Lightsteed looks like a law enforcement officer. His shotgun-like weapon also implies this sense of law enforcement, as opposed to a futuristic gun or pistol. His robot mode deco also looks like a police officer with the chevron-like silver details on his chest and the distinctively grey arms. A bit like a red Robocop, I might add.

Is it me or does Lightsteed look like he has a moustache? I mean he doesn’t actually have one, just that is mouth is in this indent that creates a shadow that gives the effect of a moustache. But those visors (which look like shades) and the faux moustache creates this sense of a red Robocop (who doesn’t have a moustache, I know) that’s out to punish all Decepticons.

Best of all, no beer belly, unlike most police officers depicted in the media.

So Lightsteed’s a red Robocop amongst the Technobots. They do need some muscle, since it’d be boring if everyone was a genius in a team of geniuses (although “The Big Bang Theory” does prove otherwise). He’ll be the strong, law-abiding dude of the team!
