[Transformers] ‘G2 Bruticus’ looks surprisingly colour co-ordinated

G2 Bruticus is the combined form of the G2 Combaticons, Brawl, Vortex, Blast Off, Swindle, Onslaught, with new team member Shockwave as the weapon. He’s based on the original G2 Bruticus toy (which makes him a recolour of a recolour). He’s a brightly coloured piece of amazing, and of course, he’s one of the most powerful combiners around. I mean, he’s completely made up of war vehicles! What would you expect?

He’s available as the G2 Bruticus box set that retails for SGD$199.90, and he was launched on 15 June. G2 Bruticus is the last of the G2 combiner recolours, unless a G2 Defensor one appears! Thanks Hasbro for G2 Bruticus!

So G2 Bruticus comes in this big box (as do all the other G2 Combiners) with him looming over and attempt to attack you. It also showcases all the six figures who are inside the box, plus robot and vehicle modes. It does come at a cost of the bio though, which is now in 4 languages and is only 1-2 lines long. I liked reading the bios.

He’s one of the more colour co-ordinated G2 combiners around (since the artwork is dark) so it looks pretty OK. Personally I’d have wanted a more brightly lit shot, but hey, he’s Bruticus! A Decepticon! Dark and grim and evil works for him.

So he comes with everything nicely attached (they come off easily, thanks to the new system of of thin plastic ties), as well as a poster, collector’s card, and instructions. His poster is of his G2 form, which is a nice change from G2 Menasor and G2 Superion (which sport posters of the original combiners, not in their G2 decos).

It’s quite amusing to see that his hands and feet are made of different coloured plastic for the hinges.

Bruticus!

So here’s Bruticus! When he’s together, he’s surprisingly OK – mainly because each limb and his torso is a strong colour (I would say they are all primary colours but that’s not quite accurate). He’s not as wide as the other combiners, but he also looks more proportionate in that his limbs are of a sizeable thickness compared to his body. If you liked the original, you’ll like his G2 form.

He still has some balance issues though, in that he tilts forward a lot. You’ll need to compensate for this by tilting him backwards a bit, but otherwise he’s all good.

Comparisons

I’d say it’s a bit of a wash. On the one hand the original Bruticus looks pretty serious and imposing, while G2 Bruticus looks more flamboyant and spectacular. The added bonus is that G2 Bruticus has those weird purple camouflage designs that serve as unifying factor for all his components (save Shockwave), so that makes him look more like a team than the original Bruticus.

Obviously, I got all the G2 bots. And the G2 Seekers, but that’s another story. If you put them together, you’ll be transported to the 90’s. See above for reference. The 90’s were a fun time though!
