Starting this month, we’ll be premiering a new monthly feature about new television shows to hit terrestrial and cable channels, as well as streaming sites in Singapore! We’ll also highlight shows that you’ve got to be home (or on your phone) to catch every month.

What to catch this March?

March sees a slew of new dramas coming out. It’s going to be a pretty serious month, but if you’re in the mood for angst and conflict, then you’ll be one happy viewer.

Marriage Contract (Viu, 6 March)

A widow with a young daughter discovers she has a brain tumour. To ensure that her daughter will have a guardian, she signs a contract to be the time-limited wife of another man.

The premise is enough to be a tearjerker already. It’s bad enough that she’s a single mum, now she’s got cancer and she has to enter a loveless relationship with another man? You can already smell the tragedy coming, and the inevitable love story is just going to make it all the more painful. Bonus points if the something goes wrong with the contract as well. Keep your tissues handy, friends!

Genius (History Channel, 16 March; Wednesdays 9.00 pm)

Genius, premieres 16 March. (HISTORY)
Genius, premieres 16 March. (HISTORY)

Genius reveals the fateful forces behind the greatest competitions for innovation and the contests that pit history’s brightest minds against each other, in the race to lay claim to the future.

Some of the match-ups in this series are going to be: Edison vs Tesla, Colt vs Wesson and Gates vs Jobs! How better to satisfy our endless fascination with the greatest inventors in history by showing how they went up against each other in a battle to better humanity? And come on, haven’t we always wanted to see who would triumph in a battle of Windows vs Apple?

My Sweet Audrina (Lifetime, 26 March, 9.00 pm)

My Sweet Audrina, premieres 26 March, 9.00 pm. (Lifetime)
My Sweet Audrina, premieres 26 March. (Lifetime)

A gothic psychological thriller centering on Audrina, a young girl with an inability to recall past events in her life. Audrina is haunted by nightmares in which she dreams of her older sister and slowly starts to regain her memory of the grim truth around the death of her sister.

The name Audrina already has creepy undertones, and the title sounds too creepy to be actually about a sweet girl named Audrina. Prepare yourself for unexplained events, skeletons in the closet and a doomed romance in this telemovie adaptation of the novel of the same name. The worst part is that being a “psychological thriller” means you’ll never quite be sure if the supernatural is involved…
