[Movies & Toys] Film secrets revealed in toy listings for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows

So when the new trailer for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows came out, everyone went crazy over the new fan-favourite characters that we finally got to see in the flesh. The number of villains more than doubled from the previous film (although our heroes have a new ally in the form of Casey Jones), with Bebop, Rocksteady, Karai and Baxter Stockman appearing.

But they just keep surprising us with the inclusion of one new character that wasn’t in the trailer.

Krang

Scans of the upcoming toys to accompany the movie reveal the existence of Krang (also spelt Kraang in other series)!

Krang was the evil disembodied brain introduced in the original animated series, that frequently required either a bubble walker or an android body to move around. It looks like they’ve gone with the android body look for the new film!

Michael Bay also confirmed the appearance of Krang in an interview with Rolling Stone on Monday, citing that he wouldn’t have tentacles coming out of this side in this rendition.

The Technodrome

In all three animated series (1987, 2003, 2012) that Krang appeared in, he would be inextricably linked with the Technodrome, a giant spherical mobile fortress of destruction. Even though the Technodrome didn’t appear in the 2003 series per se, it appeared in the animated film “Turtles Forever” which saw a crossover between the Turtles of the 1987 series and the 2003 series.

So… what of the Technodrome in “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows?”

The Technodrome will appear! As this toy scan shows, it’ll still maintain its iconic look as a spherical metallic warship. And if you go back to the trailer, the opening sequence shows something coming out of the sky to devastate the city. The Techndrome!

There’s speculation that the floating platforms that the Turtles jump across in 01:51 of the trailer are possibly components of the Technodrome, which may have the ability to split up and reassemble itself.

Possible extended motorcycle chase scene

The scans also suggest there might be an extended motorcycle chase scene, in addition to the Turtle Van/Party Wagon making its return in the film. Those bikes are probably huge, monster choppers since the mutants are already pretty hefty characters to begin with!

And come on, who doesn’t want a Ninja Turtle on a motorcycle?

The Turtles also look less bulked up in their toy forms, although they still look pretty buff in the trailer. But leaner, taller turtles are also aesthetically more appealing, and will help make Bebop and Rocksteady look bigger in comparison. If the Turtles are too large, then Bebop and Rocksteady will have to be monstrously huge to match them in scale.

Smaller Shredder

Remember how the previous movie gave us Shredder in a giant, well, shredder? He looks like he’ll just have his arm blades in this film, which means he might not see much action against the Turtles. Then again, with Bebop, Rocksteady and Krang, he might not have to physically battle the Turtles anymore.

Me, personally, I’m looking forward to the Technodrome. It’s a new mobile fortress of doom for a new generation!
