While we might not have a new trailer for “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” since we’re getting pretty close to the movie’s release, we do have some new footage courtesy of the CW’s “Dawn of the Justice League” special! If you’re living on this side of the globe, you probably didn’t get to see it. But the featurette’s been released, and it gives us some brand new footage and info for the upcoming tousle between Batman and Superman!
So what can we hope to see in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice?”
Bruce Wayne’s perspective of the events in “Man of Steel”
Gotham City being right next door to Metropolis in the film, we get to see how a regular, powerless (but very wealthy) human witnessed the Kryptonian invasion a few years earlier in “Man of Steel.” Storytelling-wise, it’s an interesting technique to recap the events of prior movies, but we also get to see how this colours Batman’s opinion of Superman. Bruce Wayne is much older than Clark Kent (by Earth years, that is), and he didn’t get this far without acquiring some survival instincts.
Superman’s righteousness (or self-righteousness)
We’ve already seen how Superman has Batman all trussed up in previous trailers. But we get to see even more of a sneery, angry Superman in this clip. He even condemns Batman as a brutal criminal, establishing the fact that Superman has his independent code of morality. Is this how Lex Luthor eventually gains control of Superman?
Lex Luthor enslaves Superman
We see how Superman kneels before Lex Luthor (his enemies have a habit of wanting Superman to kneel to them, eh?). He seems to be in full control of his faculties, so it’s either a case of Lex Luthor manipulating Superman into doing so, or else there’s…
Kryptonite!
We already know there’s Kryptonite in the movie from news of the accompanying Lego sets (remember the “Kryptonite Interception” 300-piece set last month?). But here we have visual confirmation of the green, radioactive rock — in Lex Luthor’s possession! It might be that Lex Luthor steals it from Batman or vice-versa, but no good can come out of Superman’s archnemesis holding on to his emerald weakness.
Lex and Bruce’s human, corporate struggle
Previously, Lex Luthor was seen as Superman’s rival, with Batman being a convenient pawn in his schemes. Now it looks like Lex and Bruce will be rivals even in the business world. Jesse Eisenberg even says “Lex gets competitive with Bruce Wayne, learns everything about him” which could be a huge hint that not only does LexCorp have Wayne Enterprises’ corporate secrets — but his secret identity as Batman as well!
Connection with “Suicide Squad”
And there’s a quick, blink-and-you’ll-miss-it snippet of Harley in the featurette too! It’s already been announced that we’ll be surprised by the connections that both movies will have, but what’s Harley doing there (as opposed to someone more prominent, like say, the Joker)? Will she have a bigger part to play than we expect, or will she be in the inevitable post-credit scenes?
